Provenance Vineyards

October 25, 2013 by Dave 3 Comments

Provenance Vineyards

Provenance Vineyards is located in the heart of Rutherford directly next to Highway 29. The winery is fairly easy to spot - their main building is painted dark red. This is a busy stretch of Highway 29, but Provenance sits far enough away from the traffic - and the grounds and exterior water features lend a calming feel to the location. NOTE 1: in late … [Read more...]

Punk Dog Wine

October 25, 2013 by Dave Leave a Comment

Punk Dog Wine

Punk Dog Wine produces affordable wines meant to be enjoyed and consumed at the time of purchase. With statistics being thrown around about how most wine is consumed within an hour or two of purchase, this makes a lot of sense. In addition, they focus on non-traditional red varietal blends. It is a name that perhaps wouldn't necessarily be associated … [Read more...]

James Cole Estate Winery

October 25, 2013 by Dave Leave a Comment

James Cole Estate Winery

James Cole Estate Winery is located a short distance off of the Silverado Trail at the junction of the Oak Knoll Crossroad - the winery is very easy to find. They specialize in estate grown and produced Cabernet Sauvignon which makes sense based on their location just south of the famous Stags Leap Wine District - one of most well-known Cabernet Sauvignon … [Read more...]

James Creek Vineyards

October 25, 2013 by Dave 8 Comments

James Creek Vineyards

James Creek Vineyards is a small family run boutique winery with vineyards in eastern Napa County in Pope Valley. This part of Napa is as far from the often crowded Highway 29 on the valley floor as you can get in Napa County. "Out here" - there are still more meadows than vineyards - seemingly more pasture animals than people and plenty of fresh … [Read more...]

REASON: Still producing, but last Napa wine was in 2015. Wines most likely made in Amador County, a label of non-Napa based Scott Harvey Wines. This review is now archived and no longer being updated.

Jana Wines has been producing since 2003, crafting a mix of both Napa grown wines and wines from outside of the county. Founder Scott Harvey has been making wines since the mid 1970's; he brings decades of wine making experiences to Jana wines. Scott became intrigued with wines while in Germany as a high school exchange student. Later he worked at several … [Read more...]

Jarvis Estate Winery

October 25, 2013 by Dave 4 Comments

Jarvis Estate Winery

Jarvis Estate Winery is located on Highway 121 on the way towards Lake Berryessa - despite a somewhat isolated feel to the properties' location, Jarvis is located only about a 15 minute drive from downtown Napa. The estate is over 1,320 acres of which only 37 are planted to vine. The winery was founded by William and Leticia Jarvis. William met Leticia in … [Read more...]

JAX Vineyards

October 25, 2013 by Dave Leave a Comment

JAX Vineyards

JAX Vineyards, formerly known as Jackson Ridge has been producing wine since 1996. The name JAX is an abbreviated version of the family surname - shorter and a bit catchier. Our visit with this winery incidentally was a milestone for us, as it was the 400th Napa Valley based winery/producer we visited for the Napa Wine Project (IE, this website). Yes, we do … [Read more...]

Jericho Canyon Vineyard

October 25, 2013 by Dave Leave a Comment

Jericho Canyon Vineyard

Jericho Canyon Winery is located off of the narrow Old Lawley Toll Road on the flanks of Mt. St. Helena in the northern reaches of Napa Valley. The property sits in the shadow of the Palisades which are unique rock outcroppings that line the ridge for several miles. This was the only toll road in the area during the days of the nearby Quick Silver mines for … [Read more...]

Jocelyn Lonen Wines

Jocelyn Lonen Wines was originally located almost at the end of the very windy Atlas Peak Road however their property has since been sold and is now under ownership of a premium brand called Au Sommet. The owners of Jocelyn Lonen Wines originally founded their label in the mid 90's in the Santa Cruz Mountains and purchased their original Napa estate in 1997. … [Read more...]

Jones Family Vineyards was founded by Rick and Sally Jones (Sally died in 2005), avid wine enthusiasts who developed a passion for drinking wine while Rick (originally from Chicago) was in graduate school at Stanford University.
