2019 Napa Valley: The Year of the Wine

Each year begins with a new round of expectations. In the world of food and drinks, enthusiasts await new trends and the opportunity to experience something unique and extraordinary. The wine culture particularly consists of an eager bunch of individuals for whom the new year is a world of unlimited possibilities. Whether it is the latest releases or the up and coming wine regions filled with promise, there is always something afoot in the world of chardonnays, Shiraz, rose, and cabernets.

2019 is no different. Wine has been gaining substantial ground in the spirit world over the last few years. When we take into account the top wines to drink in 2019, a new trend emerges. Instead of a couple of wine regions leading the pack, there is a harmonious amalgamation of traditional districts like Napa along with more modern areas of Spain and South Africa that are making a mark in the industry.

However, the fact remains that Napa is the quintessential wine region that has dominated the scene for quite a while. Its inviting environment, natural beauty, and a sense of community have resulted in it becoming the prime wine tourist destination in America as well as the world. Even as a relatively new wine area, Napa has produced some genuinely exceptional rare wines and continues to make a mark internationally with its Cabernet Sauvignon and sparkling wines. The diversity in wines available in Napa Valley is every wine lovers dream come true. 2019 promises some spectacular bottles from Napa, each one worth a perfect getaway in the vineyards.

Sequoia Grove Merlot
As a winery exclusive, this 2014 Napa Valley Merlot is high on the desirability factor. Unlike its predecessors, 2014 is not too bright in colour, but a lot is going on regarding the flavours and smells which consists of plum, candied walnut, and rosemary among others.

Ghost Horse Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
2013 Spectre is an expensive bottle that is not easy to find, but worth every penny spent on it. This vintage has a lingering aftertaste that is rich and robust. There is a hint of oak and fruit that is beautifully balanced by its dryness, which isn’t too harsh on the palate.

Paraduxx Rector Creek Vineyard
The 2015 vintage is a blend between Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. Since the winery makes only a limited number of bottles, grabbing one should be on your wine list. The aroma of red cherry is especially prominent, whereas, on the palate, there is a hint of coffee and pleasantly fine tannin.

Farella Alta
A 2006 vintage, the Farella Alta has a deep colour that makes it stand out. The tannin is slightly overpowering, but for those who do not mind, the aroma of mint brings about a unique freshness to every sip. Decanting helps with the tannin, so open it up and let it breathe before you taste it.

Highwayman Reserve
The Proprietary Red 2014 is silky smooth and well balanced. It does require decanting, which opens it up to a range of beautiful flavours. There is a subtle essence of fruit; however, there the vanilla is evident, and the aftertaste is quite prominent and pleasant to the tongue.
